The north-south route: through gorges and past castles
Take the north-south route, which will take you through the mountain range’s natural barrier. From the spring to the rock face, a breathtaking journey awaits you.

Top route
Start your journey in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, where you can admire the impressive gorge. Then head to Gordes, a listed village that stands like a stone sentinel overlooking the Luberon. Don’t miss Sénanque Abbey, especially during the lavender bloom. Head back down to the plain to pass through the flamboyant landscapes of Roussillon before tackling the climb up the massif. Stop for a picnic on the Plateau des Claparèdes, between Bonnieux and Buoux. The landscape changes: holm oaks and bories dominate. The air is cooler here and the views of Mont Ventoux to the north are breathtaking. Finally, the descent southwards will take you to Bonnieux, this ‘terraced’ village which offers one of the most beautiful views of the Combe de Lourmarin, the massif’s natural fault line.
